Echocardiogram
Why is an ECHO needed?
- It evaluates the size and shape of your heart
- It evaluates the heart’s pumping strength
- It evaluates the 4 valves in your heart
What to expect during the test?
- The test takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
- A probe called a transducer is passed over your chest and an ultrasound gel will be applied to your chest.
- In some situations, the ECHO technician might request your permission to use a contrast agent for better images of your chest. This contrast agent is different from the traditional dye and does not affect your kidneys.
